8 milestones achieved by OnePlanet Research Center in five years

Chris van Hoof en Irene Rompa vieren het vijfjarig bestaan van OnePlanet Research Center.

In April, OnePlanet Research Center celebrated its 5-year anniversary.

OnePlanet Research Centre:

  • A powerhouse of innovation
  • Translates cutting-edge research into practical solutions
  • Employs truly committed and cool people

Here are 8 milestones and innovations that were shared during the day:

Inslikbare Sensorpil (Ingestible Sensor Pill):

A groundbreaking pill that, once ingested, performs vital measurements within the gastrointestinal tract. It provides remarkable new insights into digestive health and disease — and comes without any discomfort for the patient.

‘Smart Toilet’ Technology:

An innovative system embedded within toilets that can detect early signs of health issues such as dehydration and nutrient deficiencies, enabling proactive health monitoring.

Personalized health:

Through sophisticated data analysis, crucial links between diet, mood, and health have been uncovered, contributing to personalized nutrition and mental health strategies.

Autonomous Greenhouses:

By automating climate control based on the plants’ needs, these greenhouses are able to enhance crop yields and resource efficiency.

Digital Twins for Orchard (Boomgaard) Management:

Utilizing digital twins and advanced sensors, OnePlanet has created systems that predict the best care for fruit trees, optimizing yield and reducing waste.

Plant-based Protein Production:

In the Digital Food Factory of the Future, methods to produce plant-based proteins through fermentation and algae cultivation have been developed, offering sustainable alternatives to traditional protein sources.

Nitrogen Monitoring Technology:

A scalable sensor technology for accurate outdoor nitrogen detection—so relevant in today’s political climate. This innovation is key in measuring and mitigating pollution.

Integrated Photonic Sensors:

These sensors represent a big step in measurement technology, offering new applications in monitoring plant growth, food quality, and environmental parameters, allowing for sustainable agriculture and food safety.
